The Colnar Wine Cellar

A family wine story that has flourished among the vineyards of Dolenjska for centuries.

The Colnar Wine Cellar is a family-run winery with a tradition spanning more than 600 years, with the first recorded mention of the Colnar family dating back to 1408. Their passion for winemaking and deep respect for nature have been passed down through generations and continue today across more than ten hectares of vineyards located on four vineyard sites, including the picturesque Trška Gora wine-growing district. Their philosophy is founded on quality, sustainability and innovation while remaining true to the authentic winemaking heritage of the Dolenjska region.

The vineyards are planted with varieties including Cviček, Blaufränkisch (Modra Frankinja), Welschriesling (Laški Rizling), Black Velvet (Žametna Črnina), Kraljevina and Rosé, while the range is complemented by sparkling wines and carefully crafted cuvées. All wines are produced exclusively from grapes grown in the winery’s own vineyards. Their commitment to quality is reflected in numerous national and international awards. The Colnar Wine Cellar’s Cviček has been awarded the prestigious King of Cviček title three times, while their wines have also received accolades at the internationally renowned Decanter World Wine Awards. In addition to wine, they produce innovative grape seed products, including grape seed oil and flour, which are also used to create a selection of bakery products.

In 2022, the family opened a new state-of-the-art winery, where advanced technology is combined with the knowledge and experience of previous generations to produce exceptional wines. Visitors can enjoy guided tours of the winery and vineyards, along with tastings of three to six wines. An authentic Dolenjska wine experience continues at the Colnar Wine Cottage (Zidanica Colnar) on Trška Gora, which is part of the Open Wine Cottages project, where guests can sample local delicacies alongside the winery’s wines and grape seed products. Their wines are also available at the Colnar Wine Shop in the Supernova shopping centre in Novo Mesto.
