Gorjanci stretch along the southern Slovenian border, with Trdinov vrh (1,178 m) as their highest peak. Their vast beech forests, which include preserved remnants of primeval woodland, and the many springs on the steep slopes—such as Minutnik and the legendary Gospodična—serve as an important source of drinking water for the Novo mesto basin.
